Hiking Mt. Langley

Mt. Langley is one of the easiest California 14ers, but don’t let the walk-up reputation fool you. At 14,032 feet, it still requires a long day, solid fitness, and respect for altitude. The reward is one of the best summit views in the Sierra, with sweeping panoramas of Mt. Whitney, the Kaweahs, the Great Western Divide, and the vast desert basins stretching east toward Nevada.

Most hikers reach the summit via New Army Pass from Horseshoe Meadows, following a well-maintained trail through alpine meadows, granite basins, and high-elevation lakes before climbing the broad summit plateau. Unlike many Sierra peaks, the final ascent involves little exposure and no technical climbing, making Langley a popular first 14er.
