Hiking Mt. Bago

Mt. Bago is one of the lesser-known summits above the Onion Valley and Kearsarge Pass area, offering a quieter alternative to neighboring peaks like Mt. Gould and Independence Peak. The route combines a scenic approach through alpine terrain with a straightforward cross-country climb to a summit overlooking the Kearsarge Lakes Basin, Kings Canyon National Park, and the high peaks of the Southern Sierra.

While technically non-technical, Mt. Bago requires route-finding, comfort on talus, and the ability to travel efficiently at high elevation. For hikers looking to add a summit to a Kearsarge Pass adventure without the crowds, Mt. Bago is a rewarding objective.
